Why the heck would you choose to wake up at 5 am? Well, I’ll give you five reasons:
- Jesus woke up early. “In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there” (Mark 1:35). The Bible calls us to imitate Jesus in a way where we are like God. Jesus woke up before the world and talked to God, so we should too.
- You’re awake before the world. There is such peace when you are awake with God and the world (and all your troubles) are asleep. There are no distractions, no time constraints, no noise. Peace like no other.
- Start your day off right. Start your day off with God. Before work, before your mind starts getting busy before you start tacking that never-ending to-do list, you have time. Time to spend with God, time to get that workout in, or time to meal prep. You’ll be amazed at how productive you will feel once you start moving early.
- By starting your day off early and slow (especially with God), you are in a posture to have a good rest of your day. It has become natural for us to wake up an hour (if even that) before we have to leave for work, and some of us are hitting snooze until 15 minutes before we have to leave for work. We get so accustomed to rushing in the morning that some of us don’t even get the chance to eat. Instead, wake up and have a good morning routine; eat breakfast, have a coffee, read your Bible, work out… it’s so good for your health too.
- We want to start living our life, not sleeping it away. We should be excited to rise in the morning knowing that God is in full control. Life should be fun, exciting, and hopeful. We shouldn’t sleep to escape life, we should want to live it.
